Can PPF Be Installed Over Rock Chips?
PPF protects the surface it covers; it does not rebuild missing paint. Existing chips may remain visible through the film and can affect the finished appearance. Before installation, identify the damage and agree whether it will remain, receive touch-up or need a separate paint repair.

Compare appearance expectations
Small touch-ups can change the appearance of a chip but do not automatically produce a perfectly level factory finish. Larger damage may call for body-shop evaluation. Ask what will remain visible under clear film and whether the proposed preparation is appropriate. Avoid a promise that film will hide every flaw.
Coordinate repair and installation
If painting is needed, the paint system and repairer’s guidance should inform when film can be considered. Do not book from a universal waiting-period rule. Share the repair details with the installer, confirm suitability and allow the responsible professionals to agree on a sequence before the vehicle arrives.
