Window Tint Ratings: VLT, TSER and Infrared
VLT, TSER and infrared rejection describe different things. VLT concerns visible light; TSER concerns total solar energy rejected under stated test conditions. An infrared percentage describes a specified part of the spectrum or test method. Do not compare those numbers as though they measure the same outcome.

Read the glass-and-film context
Film performance figures are reported under particular test conditions and often on a specified glass substrate. Your vehicle’s existing glass affects the combined result. Ask whether a number describes film alone or an installed glazing combination, and avoid treating a sample card as a measurement of your actual windows.
Treat infrared headlines carefully
An infrared claim may refer to a selected wavelength or a broader measurement range. A large infrared percentage does not automatically mean the same percentage of all solar heat is rejected. Compare equivalent metrics and test methods across the products being considered, preferably from their manufacturer specification sheets.
Translate the data into a buying decision
Start with visibility and applicable requirements, then compare suitable films for your solar-control goal. UV performance, appearance and other properties are separate considerations. The purpose of the specification sheet is to clarify a choice, not to select the largest isolated number without understanding what it represents.
